Up To Us: Shared Memories, New Ideas by U Shape Us

What if a simple memory could spark a new connection?

Join us for a relaxed, small-group conversation using illustrated photo cards from the Up To Us game, to share memories and spark connection ideas.

This simple activity has two steps:
First, share a memory inspired by a photo prompt.
Then, imagine a new way to connect with others inspired by that memory.

There are no right or wrong answers, just a chance to reflect and imagine together.
There is no pressure to be creative.
You’re very welcome to come on your own, or bring someone with you if you’d prefer.

WHAT TO EXPECT

– A small group of 8–10 people
– A short welcome and introduction
– Time to share memories inspired by photo prompt cards
– A relaxed pace, with plenty of time to think and respond
– A quiet moment to reflect, write or sketch ideas
An opportunity to share ideas with the group
A simple closing reflection and conversation

You’re welcome to speak as much or as little as you like, or simply listen.

There is no preparation required — just come as you are.

New ideas that come up in the session might simply be enjoyed in the moment. Sometimes you might share them later with family or friends, or explore them in small ways at home or in your community. There is no expectation to follow anything up.

This is a free event, made possible with the support of COTA ACT and the UPSTAGEING Canberra Festival (and its funding partners, including the ACT Government).

Each ticket includes a $10 café voucher to use during the session.

WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID ABOUT UP TO US

Up To Us was developed as an intergenerational game, with the needs of seniors in mind, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

It has been tested with grandparents playing alongside their adult children and grandchildren, as well as with seniors’ groups through Woden Community Services and the Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra.

ACCESSIBILITY AND COMFORT

Clarrie’s Café offers gluten-free options. If you have other specific dietary needs, please indicate this in your booking.

For people using wheelchairs, walkers or mobility aids, a side entrance is available with two small steps with portable step plates to reduce the height between levels Access may require assistance.

The session will be fully seated and conversational. We will speak clearly and ensure everyone can hear.

This is a small, informal café gathering and formal supports such as interpreters or hearing loops are not provided.

Participants are responsible for their own mobility and personal support needs.

GETTING THERE

Clarrie’s Café is located in Tharwa. There is no public transport to the venue, so you will need to arrange your own transport.

There is free parking available at the café.

BOOKINGS

Places are limited to 10 due to the small group format.

If you are attending with someone else, please book a separate ticket for them so we can allocate seating and café vouchers.

Bookings are essential.

ABOUT THE HOST

Up To Us is a creation of U Shape Us, a small Canberra-based social enterprise exploring belonging through shared imagination and conversation. U Shape Us is run by local mum-daughter duo- Fiona and Molly McIntosh,

The session will be facilitated by Fiona, who has previously run sessions with individuals, families and community organisations and brings a calm, welcoming approach to conversation-based gatherings.
