Clay carving workshops series – Workshop 3 – Sgraffito (scratching through underglaze) on pre-made clay tiles

The tile workshop includes two techniques: painting and sgraffito (scratching through). These techniques will be used to create imagery based on Banksia plant leaves. The tiles will be pre-made by the artist/facilitator and ready for surface embellishment. The tiles will be fired and available for collection at a later date.

Carving techniques and processes will be introduced. All tools and equipment provided. The clay works will be fired and available later for collection. No prior experience needed.

2.30 – 3.45pm (75 mins) – Suitable for adults, all abilities and experience welcome

Three clay carving workshops, facilitated by experienced artist/educator Amanda Andlee Poland, will be held on Sunday 22 March 2026 in conjunction with her solo exhibition, DHULWA/BANKSIA re leaf, held in the Visitor Centre Gallery, Australian National Botanic Gardens.

It is recommended that you view the exhibition and the Banksia Gardens before the workshop session.
