MusicACT x UPSTAGEING Festival present LONG PLAY — a live showcase celebrating original music from some of Canberra’s best alternative artists.

Featuring surf rockers The King Hits, country punks Snake Oil Preachers, garage pop stars petre out & the tyre slashers, and alt-country songstresses What She’s Having, LONG PLAY brings together incredible artists that make Canberra cultural life shine for all ages. The King Hits
The King Hits will knock you out with a left right combo that would have Lux Interior sitting up in his grave. The King Hits are described by French cowpunk author Merle Leonce Bone as a gang of spectacular and suburban psychotic werewolves playing “Australia’s creepiest voodoo deathabilly”. Their latest 7 inch record Great White b/w Jaywalkin’ was recorded by Owen Penglis (Straight Arrows) and is out now.

Snake Oil Preachers
Since 2017 the Snake Oil Preachers have been gathering the faithful to rejoice in songs of Sin, Salvation, Damnation and Redemption. Dubbed “Canberra’s favourite and most innovative country-punk party band” (Riot Act August 2020) their patent-pending snake oil is a potent brew of iconic standards from country-funk to punk-a-billy mixed with newly distilled original tunes, all derived from their 150 plus years of combined musical and performance experience.

petre out & the tyreslashers
Garage pop and DIY indie rock inspired by The Lucksmiths, Daniel Johnston and a thousand zines. Led by Pete Huet aka petre out (Waterford) with his office punk charm and witticisms.

What She’s Having
What She’s Having deliver red hot alt country. Headed by two strong front women, driven by an engine room hell bent on settling the score. “the interplay between them is seamless, heartfelt, and world class” (Australian Stage, December 2025).
