Come and try sketching by Urban Sketchers Canberra

Join a friendly group of sketchers for a mornings sketching. If you have never sketched before here is your chance to give it a try.

All you need is pencil and some paper, and a stool/camping chair to get started. However, if you have more art materials bring them, digital sketching is also part of the many and varied materials our sketchers use to document the world around them.

There will be no formal tuition, however USK members will be happy to provide some guidance and share their experiences as a sketcher with participants.

USK Canberra is part of a online not-for-profit global network of urban sketchers who meet up to share the joy of sketching and documenting their town/city /life. The Canberra group celebrated its 10th birthday in 2025.

It draws members from all walks of life and offers a welcoming social group to newcomers to Canberra. The group’s work showcases Canberra to the world, and also serves to document the changing face of Canberra over time. For example, some members sketched a Covid19 testing station during the semi lockdown period, while others have sketched construction works around Canberra. Members have sketched on the trams, in alley ways, in new and old Parliament House, in shopping malls, local shopping centers, temples and in parks to name a few of the many and varied places they meet. Gatherings often end with a shared lunch or a cuppa.

The group meets at least once a month – its regular sketch meet up is on the 2nd Sunday of the month for a regular sketch meet. Additional sketch meets are held from time to time, and promoted along with the regular meet up via the group’s Facebook page.
