Artists in Conversation: Kerry McInnis, Mike MacGregor, Steve Roper, and Brian Hincksman

Join Belco Arts for an artist’s talk with Kerry McInnis, Mike MacGregor, Steve Roper, and Brian Hincksman to learn more about their practice and artworks in “Of Ravens and Rivers” “Works”, and “Abstract Connotations” exhibitions.

About the Artists

Kerry McInnis graduated from University in Middlebury, Vermont, USA, and the Sorbonne, Paris with an Honours Degree in Art and in French, and later completed her Masters in the Conservation of Art from University of Canberra. Kerry has been painting the landscape for five decades and is also known for her portraiture work. She exhibited in Canberra with Solander Gallery and Nancy Sever Gallery, and in Sydney at Wagner Contemporary Gallery where she exhibited her landscape oeuvre for over 12 years, holding numerous solo and group exhibitions.

Mike MacGregor’s tertiary background is founded in Industrial and Graphic Design, studying in London and then teaching at UC in these subjects. He studied Printmaking in Japan, specializing in mezzotint and other intaglio processes which he exhibited in numerous galleries in Tokyo and in Sydney. During the past 20 years, Mike has focused his creative energy into sculptural work, especially working in forged metal and in combinations of iron with glass, marble, and wood.

Steve Roper studied architecture, art and teaching in Sydney. He came to Canberra in 1978, and since then he has been teaching and making art. Throughout this time, he has painted a variety of subjects, including interiors, landscape and cartoons. More recently, he has taken up ceramics as well. Steve has won various awards in ceramics and painting.

Brian Hicksman is a polymath of the Canberra art scene, with a distinguished reputation a musician, poet, set designer and visual artist. He attended the ANU School of Art in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and has subsequently had a number of exhibitions locally and interstate with solo and group shows, developing an abstract visual language focused on realising philosophical ideas through painting.
