A DAY AT THE MOVIES: SOME LIKE IT HOT

The best kind of day at the movies!

A Day at the Movies is the National Film and Sound Archive’s dementia-friendly film program for cinema-lovers. Designed for the enjoyment and comfort of people living with dementia, friends and family, these matinee screenings offer a relaxed and enjoyable day out for everyone. Each screening includes a complimentary Bulla choc-top, interval with tea and coffee, and a light lunch in the NFSA’s heritage courtyard.

The next screening is Billy Wilder’s musical-comedy Some Like it Hot (1959), starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon.
Some Like it Hot is set in Prohibition era Chicago. Joe (Curtis) and Jerry (Lemmon) are two struggling musicians who witness a mob murder and need to get out of town fast. They make their escape by dressing as women and joining an all-female band on a train travelling to Miami. The band’s ukelele player Sugar (Monroe) befriends the two new band members, but when Joe falls for her, he needs to find a way to woo Sugar while maintaining their disguise. With both the mob and other suitors in pursuit, there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments in this classic comedy.

A Day at the Movies is an ACT Government initiative, aligned with its Age-Friendly City Plan. The program has been created and led by University of NSW, in collaboration with University of New England. In-kind support from the National Film and Sound Archive (Venue Partner), Carers ACT, Dementia Australia, the ACT Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing and Bulla Dairy Foods.
