Volunteer with COTA ACT
Why volunteer?
As an organisation that relies greatly on volunteers to assist us to carry out the work of our organisation, volunteering is something we greatly respect and support.
Council on the Ageing (COTA) ACT has a range of opportunities for skilled, experienced and enthusiastic community members who are looking to help support older Canberrans.
We are often looking for people to help us in a variety of roles across a range of programs and services.
What can I be involved with?
Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS)
The ACVVS provides friendship and companionship to older people who are isolated and lonely. Volunteers meet regularly with older people and engage in a range of activities and social opportunities.
Commitment: 3 hours per week at an aged care facility/retirement setting
Digital Mentoring
The Get IT program works with older people to help them gain confidence using their digital device. Digital mentors are not technical experts – but rather people who use their device confidently and have patience and dedication to work with older people.
Commitment: 3 hours per week at the COTA office in Hughes
Office Support/Seniors Information
Office support volunteers assist with a range of duties including reception, admin, data entry and outreach services (such as regular outreach visits to ACT Libraries or Seniors Centres etc).
Commitment: varies depending on demand and type of engagement
Events
Event volunteers assist with a range of duties including set up and pack up of events, marking and promotion, greeting attendees and other on the day support.
Commitment: one off commitment from 2-6 hours at various locations
Hughes Community Shed and Garden
Volunteers at the Hughes Community Shed and Garden assist with management and running of the community facilities.
Commitment: varies depending on demand
Corporate/organisational volunteers
We welcome work groups who are looking to volunteer. Volunteers can assist with projects (eg gardening, painting, cleaning) and events.
Commitment: one off commitment from 2-6 hours
Board of Management
The COTA ACT Board is made up of qualified members who direct COTA ACT in our mission to improve the lives of older Canberrans. We particularly welcome those with experience in the community, legal and financial sectors.
